Hey rockers and welcome to this week’s rock news roundup. You may already know, but we lost two incredible men a week ago, both close friends of mine. Both will be mentioned in this RNR.
Hush Harbor‘s Scott Shireman went to be with the Lord on March 15th due to stage 4 cancer. Scott had many hats he wore, as he was many things for many people. For me, it was being an encourager. I first met Scott at Kingdom Come Festival, and I also had the privilege of going to Rock on Winter one year. Both Scott and Nancy (his wife) have been incredibly kind to me and encouraged my photography. One of my regrets is not photographing Rock on Water at some point. If you did not have the privilege of meeting Scott, you missed out on a kindhearted, ministry minded soul. You can read his obituary here and donate to the gofundme here to help Nancy with the bills. Please pray for Nancy and all of his loved ones at this time.
Theoterran‘s David Pataconi also went to be with Lord on March 16th also due to cancer. Like with Scott, I met David at KCF. David is someone who becomes friends with everyone he meets. He always has a smile and a hug for everyone, and more than that, even in the face of his worst circumstance, he remained an encourager who showed the light and love of Jesus to all. The Flyleaf song “Fully Alive” comes to my mind. “More than most, ready to smile, and love life”. After his death, two singles he created dropped, “Tears in my Coffee” and “You Don’t Waste a Tear”. Check out the press release on that here and be sure to listen to both tracks. David is also survived by a wife and children, so please pray for them at this time. Knowing I met both of these men at the same music festival, and they both died of the same disease within 24 hrs of each other is extremely hard. But knowing how much they absolutely loved Jesus Christ, how their lives were lived for Jesus, and how they both were welcomed with the words “well done my good and faithful servant”, that gives me hope in the sadness.
Stephen Stanley dropped a music video for “Change”. Some lyrics include “Tripping over stones I’ve already thrown. Digging up the past doesn’t seem to help. Sick of wasting time over wishing wells”. I know all about looking inside myself and wanting to do something or being someone different, which I cannot do on my own, rather I need help from the Holy Spirit.
Idle Threat dropped a music video for “illuminated days”.
Glasslands dropped a music video for “Bottom Feeder”.
Labor Xll dropped a music video for “Breathe”. When talking about the song, the band says “It’s an anthem for anyone who has felt the smothering pain of loss… For anyone who has faced the reality that someone they love is no longer here… For anyone who has whispered to themselves, “I just need to breathe.” And boy does that apply to me and to many in the scene this week. Thanks for a much-needed song right now guys!
