Her debut Christian single is already receiving rave reviews and is backed by a powerful “only God” testimony that’s resonating with listeners. Samantha Stone is undoubtedly an artist to watch. [JW] For anyone who hasn’t heard of you before, could you share your testimony and how you became a Christian?
[SS] In 2023, trauma that I have been suppressing surfaced. I then started to experience an identity disorder, crippling anxiety and severe depression to the point that I started to dissociate and feel suicidal. I lost my sense of reality and myself. For the first time in years, I cried out on my knees and prayed to God to put me on the right path because I was done living a life that I have forced. A life that was pushing me away from God – from smoking, practicing new age, reiki, to drinking by myself just to feel something. Once I surrendered and let God lead the way, my life completely flipped a whole 180. I started going to a Christian church, Harvest Time Church Ontario, and I would feel a tugging on my heart. The Holy Spirit was leading me to baptism. It wasn’t until October 2024 when I finally decided to get baptized. That is when I became a Christian. That is when I repented and fully submitted myself to God.
[JW] Woah! That’s quite a testimony! You’ve shared a lot of reels on your Instagram proving that the “Jesus Glow” is real. What do you love the most about your new Jesus Glow? And what would you say to anyone who is in a similar spot to where you were who wants that Jesus Glow?
[SS] What I love the most about my new Jesus glow is that I have now found my identity in Christ – a woman of God, embracing and confident with my feminine self. It is definitely easier said than done to just trust God, but I would say to anyone who is in a similar spot to where I was is to start praying to God to put you on the path that you are meant to be on. That’s where I first started. We are only human, living in free will. What the enemy tries to take us out for, God will turn it around for good.
[JW] How did you first get into music? And what’s your mission with your music?
[SS] This is so random but my grandpa handed me a mic when I was 3 years old. We would sing mariachi music together. My mission with my music is first to honor and praise the Lord. But ultimately, I want to bring awareness to the “emo-scene” that there is a light in the darkness of feeling so alone, anxious, suicidal and depressed, and that’s God. I am aware that this is something not everyone can just believe. A lot of people have bad experiences from church, myself included. BUT GOD will never leave you, nor forsake you. It took me about 15 years to reconnect with God. I realized He never left my side, I was just avoiding and ignoring Him the entire time. God saved me from anxiety, depression, PTSD from trauma, an identity disorder, dissociating, so much more. If He can do it for me, He can do it for you.
[JW] need u here is your debut Christian alt-rock single. How have you been welcomed into the space? And what’s the feedback on the song been like?
[SS] Well! This has thrown me by surprise. I thought I was going to get soooo much negative feedback, but it has been the complete opposite. I know it was just the enemy getting in my head. I have gotten nothing but support and uplifting feedback. I’ve gotten a lot of messages and comments on how people have been searching and praying for music like this, then my song reaches them. God is so intentional!
[JW] It’s always cool when song lyrics include Bible verses and Need u here features Psalm 139:10. What significance does that verse have in your life? And what led you to including it in the song?
[SS] What’s crazy is that I have never read Psalms 139:10 prior to including it in the lyrics. So, 1 week before going into this studio session, me and my best friend Darleen were led to fast and pray knowing that this was going to be my first Christian song release. Right before I walk into the studio, I’m sitting in my car and Darleen sends me a voice message. She then starts praying for me. As she’s praying, I ask God to lead the way. While my friend Josh Strock is playing these amazing guitar riffs, I ask the Holy Spirit to lead my vocal melodies. I then start singing vocal melodies right on the spot, I pick up my bible and that is when I was led to Psalms 139:10 – “Even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” This could not have been more perfect. This verse portrays how me and my best friend Darleen were letting God lead the way.
[JW] Tell us about how the song came to be what it is today…
[SS] When I got baptized in October 2024, I did not know where I stood with music. I’ve been in bands since I was 14 years old, and singing since I was 3 years old. However, it was all secular music. I asked God “What now? Where do I go from here?” I continued to be patient, pray and trust that He would lead the way. It wasn’t until February of this year where I was finally led to fast and pray with my best friend Darleen where we intentionally asked God for guidance in this. Once I got to the studio, the lyrics and vocal melodies just flowed – entirely Holy Spirit led. My intention was to write a song glorifying God and emphasizing how it’s never too late to cry out to the Lord when we need Him the most.
[JW] That’s so cool! You can definitely feel this song was Holy Spirit led! How has the song and/or letting the Holy Spirit flow through you to create the song helped you in these early stages of your new Christian chapter in life?
[SS] Truly, this song has really helped me put my faith and trust in God. This song took only 3 to 4 hours to write, whereas, it would normally take weeks or even months. I would stress or force lyrics and get stuck on vocal melodies, but once I let the Holy Spirit lead the way, everything just flowed.
[JW] That’s awesome! We’re stoked to be exclusively premiering the music video for need u here. Could you share a little about how the video came to be…
[SS] I got together a team who helped with filming, hair, makeup, and set dressing. Timothy and his girlfriend Abigail, the videographers, walked me and my bandmates through the filming process while Bernice helped with set dressing. My best friend Darleen styled my hair and Jasmin did my makeup. Cool sidenote, but Darleen, Jasmin, and Bernice are all friends from church! We all set up in my drummer Jonah’s home. We did not necessarily have a plan, but I prayed before we started shooting and asked God to lead the way. Essentially, the video consists of me singing and playing guitar, accompanied by my friends David on bass and Jonah on drums.
[JW] Amazing! Praise the Lord for everything God’s done in your life so far Samantha, for what He’s going to continue to do through this song and video, and for everything that’s still to come in the future! Speaking of the future, are you working on new music?
[SS] Thank you so much! I am doing this all for His glory. I am working on new music that I am so excited to release soon!
