Following the release of two new singles in two months (“Beautiful” and “Have Me”), Reach Records artist Hulvey arrives with a hard hitting yet refreshingly vulnerable new single, “Closer” featuring St. Louis native, Torey D’Shaun.
Looking back over the past year of Music, Christopher Hulvey, better known as Hulvey, reflects on his body of work saying, “I see how easy it is to talk about God and not really live it out.” He adds, “My desire is to learn how to lead a life of true surrender to God and live that life all the time.” At the same time, Hulvey acknowledges the grace and forgiveness we are extended by God saying, “God is still showing me that it’s okay to fail and learn.”
You hear the desire from the young rising star immediately with the opening lines setting the tone for the rest of the record. “I’m tryna be a disciple that’s showing my rivals Your love over givin’ ’em hatred, I’m tryna be a disciple that’s living revival my life is a whole conversation.” He continues, “I’m tryna be a disciple that follows Your will whenever the trend is Jada, I’m tryna be a disciple that put on Your armor whenever I know I can’t take ’em.”
Following a compelling beat switch towards the end of the song, Torey D’Shaun adds perspective rapping, “Even when I had nobody else I just kept messing up, They put me on the shelf, but you stayed close to me,” solidifying a beautiful picture of the balance grace and truth plays in all of our lives.
“Ultimately, My desire is that this song would remind people of the grace God offers us as well as inspire people to choose daily to be His disciple.” says Hulvey. “Closer” Produced by Carvello, Lasanna “Ace” Harris, and Joel McNeill, is available now everywhere.
