Prayer & Praise: It's Not Easy Being Human

Prayer & Praise: It’s Not Easy Being Human

In college I had an English professor who constantly emphasized “give credit to where credit is due”, which was a slight word change to Samuel Adams’ renowned saying “Give credit to whom credit is due.” Hence, another reason for me to share and tell, and to give praise to God!

One Friday night in May, I was on Instagram longer than I should’ve been. However, this late night social media scrolling gave me the opportunity to submit a 5 second video clip of myself to possibly be featured in the new Islander music video with Lacey Sturm called “It’s Not Easy Being Human”.

After multiple takes – and probably 10 minutes worth of recording – I recorded the most decent 5 second clip and prayed a simple prayer: “God if it is Your will my clip will be chosen. If it is not, it’s okay, at least I took the risk and did something out of my comfort zone.”

Months had gone by and I hadn’t heard or seen any news updates on social media or via email. The week I was planning on messaging Islander to see if I sent the video clip to the right email, I saw them post on Instagram that “It’s Not Easy Being Human” was playing on the SiriusXM Octane radio channel. I commented on the post telling them I couldn’t wait to see the music video. Then a few hours later they posted the link to the release of the official music video!

I was so hesitant to click the link, that I literally watched the video peeping through my hands covering my eyes. To my surprise, I did make the cut! I was so shocked. I thanked God and I even messaged Islander thanking them for the opportunity. Then I shared the video with Iain, our JesusWired editor, asking if I could share the music video and write a brief article.

The lyrics of “It’s Not Easy Being Human” are profound and relevant for the times we are living in. It seems like the whole world is gloomier with a few days of bright sunshine. More people tend to be lost, confused, depressed, angry, frightened, anxious, suicidal and so forth, but we all must have “grace and mercy” on each other as the song says “please have grace and mercy on me”. Because God has so much grace and mercy on us, how can we not extend that grace and mercy to others, plus the love and joy that is only found in Jesus Christ?

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 are verses that reference an attitude of joy and gratitude and furthermore reminds us to “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

So, in all aspects of life have a joyful heart, pray even for the little things, and thank God for everything. You never know how He will use you, bless you, or just comfort you. Life is difficult; “It’s Not Easy Being Human”; but with God nothing is impossible (Luke 1:37 NKJV).
