“This was the second song I had ever written. Writing songs was something that I had always wanted to do, but I had no idea where to start. After being a part of the Grace Cowboy Band for a little while, I started praying and just asking God to put the words on my heart that He wanted to share. I know how important music is and how it is often used as a form of therapy for many people. I also believe God uses songs to speak to us and send messages that we might need to hear at certain times, whether we want to hear it or not. The lyrics to My Best Friend came to me within about an hour. I recorded myself singing the melody that I heard in my head, then sent that to David Mann, Uncle Dave as I call him, to put music to it. He had a similar experience with the music and told me that it all just sort of came to him out of nowhere. He has been a major help and influence on helping me get to where I’m at now. I’ve been blessed with some of the best people helping me out along the way and continuing to push me to be better and not give up… my family, the band, the Pennington brothers, my church.. just to name a few.
My Best Friend has a title that speaks for itself. It’s easy to get down and feel lonely from time to time, especially in today’s society. This song serves as a reminder that no matter what, we will always have Jesus. What more do we need?”
