Faith, Global Health, and Sacrifice Intersect In #1 Amazon Bestselling Memoir of Nurse Turned Adoptive Mother of Kenyan Siblings with Sickle Cell Disease
From Beyond the Skies, the debut memoir and self-described “non-glossy story of hope” by Juli Boit, is releasing today, September 28, 2021. The book is a remarkable love letter to her second home of Eldoret, Kenya, the unexpected family of children she adopted with her Kenyan husband Titus, and the large community of friends, loved ones, and supporters who have emerged to share in this miraculous journey of love and healing.
The e-book version of From Beyond The Skies debuted on Amazon in June and reached #1 in Adoption and #1 in New Releases for Christian Inspiration and Medical Professional Biographies. The trade book releases today on Amazon, Barnes & Noble and everywhere books are sold. The book also received a prestigious starred review from Kirkus, calling From Beyond The Skies “A heroic, uplifting account of easing others’ suffering and building a family.”
When Juli lands in Kenya for a short-term mission trip, she has no idea this place would capture her heart and change everything about her life. A trained and accomplished nurse practitioner from California, Juli comes face to face with the HIV pandemic in the villages where she is working. Drawn to the stories and people she meets and seeking to live out her faith in an authentic way, Juli partners with Kenyans to create a locally sourced solution to the problems she observes — most notably the utter lack of adequate hospice care & rehabilitation for adults and children suffering with HIV.
Upon founding Living Room International, a faith-based and community-led non-profit health and care center, her life is again upended when a three-pound, premature, newborn is brought to the center. She and Titus take him in with the determination to help him survive, later learning the baby and his two siblings have life-threatening sickle cell disease. Invited into a journey of life and death, trusting God and discovering how to love in ways deeper than either of them had ever experienced, the couple endeavored to travel 10,000 miles from their home in Kenya back to the United States in search of life saving medical care. From Beyond the Skies provides a language for parents of children going through medical treatment and the challenges of adoption while delivering an incredible tale of courage, faith, and love.
In the aftermath of this unprecedented Covid-19 pandemic and the ongoing global response, Juli’s journey is an example of how one woman’s faith, resilience and vulnerability can be met with the strength of a community who shows up to hold joy and pain together, celebrating life’s tragedy and triumphs, and bring healing to a family that resonates throughout a village and country.
A short film introducing many of the characters we meet in Juli’s book will premiere at Justice Film Festival in New York City in March, 2022.
