Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10 ESV
I’m spending my Sunday delving deep into my personal dreams for this year and beyond, into what I need to change to get there and just generally questioning anything and everything about myself and my life. At every turn today I’ve been smacked straight in the face by fear; “nah, you ain’t cool enough, you’re not good looking enough, you’re not knowledgeable enough, you just ain’t good enough for that”. I’ve actually stayed strong in the face of the overwhelming wall of fear and pushed through knowing it’s all a load of rubbish and lies but even though I’m now in a place of good mental health, a stark contrast to my life 14 months ago, I’m now absolutely exhausted. I don’t know about you but I really hate fear (it may be fake but it appears so so real!) and I’m ready to strike back…in love of course!
The best way to strike back at fear? Faith.
Today I’ve been singing God’s truths over myself throughout. “I’m no longer a slave to fear, and I AM a child of God.”
Thank you God for striking fear down on our behalf and THANK YOU for this perfect anthem for fear sufferers from Bethel Music. If you’re struggling with fear today I highly encourage you to stop doing what you’re doing (partly because what you’re currently doing probably isn’t helping!), hit play on these two beautiful covers from Brooke Nicholls & Lightfall and Austin & Lindsey Adamec, and really soak in the words as you hand your fear and worries over to God.
And, for my fellow rockers out there, here’s a beautiful song from Skillet about being brave in your faith in the face of fear.
Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.
1 Peter 5:7 NIV
Oh, one last thing. Want to know a funny story? I wrote this article last Sunday and gave into fear and didn’t post it. Yep, that happened. Well take that fear, it’s posted now!! Sometimes it takes you a second to conquer fear, sometimes it takes you a week and sometimes it takes you years. But you’ll get there, I have FAITH in you! Faith conquers fear EVERY. SINGLE. TIME!
