SoCal Rapper JunSix to Release Personal Album Recorded During Covid-19 Pandemic
JunSix released his 5th album titled Bghro6 on April 10th of this year, his most successful independent album release to date with over 130,000 total Spotify streams. His lead single “Take My Time” has reached over 75,000 steams and counting. Prior to its release, the Covid-19 pandemic began to take shape, forcing residents to remain in their homes except for essential workers. Racial tensions began to heighten, and family members were lost due to Cancer. JunSix found solace in creating. Around May, JunSix built up his own studio and began to record new music. That music became Origin Story: The Mixtape.
JunSix added more different producers and collaborated with new faces and familiar faces on his most personal and creative project. The 19-track set maintains the sound he discovered on Bghro6, but he introduces new sounds that push the creative envelope. JunSix reconnected with producer The Ambiance on four tracks, including the lead single “B.I.D”. Additional producers include Terminal, Prodbysamplez, G.i.soul and Roopy Tunes. JunSix kept the collaborations to a minimum but worked with Famos Amos and KNFDNTL on the “be yourself” anthem “Circles”. Deltron Blac appears on the hard-driving opener “Dragon Year” and The Found8tion lends his lyrical ability on the tag-team track “Serenade”. One of the most creative songs on the album, G.i.soul provides the musical backdrop a la Pentatonix on the title track “Origin Story”.
The album features JunSix talking about how he navigates Christian life during the clear and present challenges of this year. Standout records include his second biggest single “MEMOIRS” which has already reached 22,000 Spotify streams since its September release. On “DO IT LIKE DONCIC”, JunSix references young NBA star Luka Doncic’s game-winning shot, while rooting for the underdogs over a hypnotic bass-heavy track. “EMOJI” features JunSix going for a throwback layered vocal where JunSix sings “what if your skin was mine? And mine was yours for a time? Could we then redefine our view of a Black lives matter sign?”
JunSix has released several visuals for the songs, which can be found on his YouTube channel (Youtube.com/JunnybabyMusic). The album is scheduled to be released to all platforms on November 20th. JunSix will be scheduling an Instagram Live Online Listening Session to play the album in its entirety.
