The Mossy Mosaic: Weekly Summary – 7/2-7/8/18

Hi there and welcome back to a new episode of The Mossy Mosaic, where I can totally be myself and can rant and rave about what I’ve loved lately while not worrying about needing to be ‘professional’…not that I manage that during the week anyway!! It’ll also give me a chance to mention some of the new things I haven’t had the time to cover through a news article.

Right let’s get on with looking through the best new music (in my opinion!) from the week of 7/2-7/8/18 then…

Track of the week:

Hands down this goes to Datin’s CHH Ain’t Dead. Datin WENT INNNN!!!! Honestly writing an intro for a track this hot is pretty much just pointless, so just go ahead, click play and make sure there’s a fire extinguisher nearby to put out your headphones afterwards!

Favorite Music Videos

Collington returned with a new track & music video “Here We Go” and it’s spine chillingly good. And that’s coming from someone who isn’t really into alternative music! His new EP comes out next month and you’re all in for a treat, good stuff!

MHEternal is the pop/worship project of former NewReleaseToday Editor Marcus Hathcock and, putting my personal (playful) negative bias aside, it’s actually quite good! His new Monsoon Season single is dedicated to the people of Puerto Rico and is out now. He was also recently a part of Vineyard Worship’s Heart Sound: Live from Vineyard Boise album.

Marcus’ new Facebook live show with CCM Mag starts tomorrow and, if you ever experienced our interactions through NRT Now, you’ll know just how much I’m looking forward to tomorrow at 1pm ET! It’s almost (affectionate) trolling time again…

It’s Sarah Reeves performing a stripped down version of her awesome hit song Details. It’s in. Obviously!

All 3 Renaissance Movement artists released new music/videos on Friday but Sinai’s And 1! video featuring former NBA star James McAdoo stood out for me. “Regardless of the opposition you face, never stop shooting your shot! I’m on my And 1! ARE YOU?!?!” – Sinai

If you see the words “Neon Feather Remix” you know you’re in for a treat. And his own music ain’t half bad either!

Jenn Bostic is one of my favorite personal artist finds of this year, most of her songs just seem to contain an extra helping of soul! This is beautiful…

There really is just something calming about Allan Scott’s music and that’s a great quality to have.

Gotta love a bit of Zach Williams…

Other Videos & things I’ve been digging:

Dude Perfect easily top this list this week. Their 4th Ping Pong Trick Shots video this week was incredible and that first trick shot? Yeah that, and Ty’s commentary on that one, is just pure class! Always been a fan of chain reaction videos…

The How Ridiculous boys broke in (not literally) the new Optus Stadium in Perth, Western Australia in the best way possible…How Ridiculous style!

I love finding out the stories behind the music almost as much as I love music, and this week Hillsong Young & Free took us behind their new EP III in a documentary…

and for the 3rd week running I’m including an Inspiration 365 video from Philippa Hanna…and I really don’t care! This video contains such a wonderful message of unity despite differences that you just have to watch it. Have to…

I was unsure of whether I’d love GAWVI as an artist or not but a few years later I’m unsure of why I was unsure! I seriously love GAWVI’s music and I have always seriously loved Lecrae’s music so a GAWVI track featuring Lecrae? Yeah, I seriously love this…

Going back to ‘behind the music’ videos, both for KING & COUNTRY and Building 429 released ‘behind the scenes of their music videos’ videos. Both are fascinating…

We published my recent interview with new artist Avery Blank this week. Give it a read here.

Our awesome twitter interactions with GFM and our reluctant stepson Blaise Rojas continued, including a mildly entertaining appearance from myself on GFM’s dinner with GFM insta live on Friday night. Please join me in praying for them as they travel across the country to start their next tour with the summer rockfest tour. More details on that tour can be found here.

Album of the week:

I finally got around to listening to Sanctus Real’s newest Changed album and goodness me I enjoyed it. Really don’t know why it took me so long to listen to it, especially considering just how much I was obsessed with the Confidence music video! You can read Vanessa’s review of the album here.

What’s coming up?

The question this time should be what’s not coming up?! Next week is crammed chockablock full of great new releases! Koryn Hawthorne’s debut album Unstoppable comes out, as does NEEDTOBREATHE’s new Forever On Your Side project, as does Martin Smith’s Love Song for a City live album, as does Heaven On Earth part 2 from Planetshakers and as does The Protest’s Legacy album! Phew that’s a lot to look forward to! I seriously can’t wait for the world to hear that new Protest album – if you missed my thoughts on it they can be seen here.

Song Spotlight:

This week felt very light in terms of my preferred genres (rock, hip-hop & pop/electronic) so time to do something about that with this week’s song spotlight! The Protest’s newest album out next week has put me into the mood for digging back into the heavier music scene so have spent a bit of time revisiting Righteous Vendetta’s Cursed album from last year. My goodness what an album that was! Musically it was my favorite album last year, pipped only by KJ-52’s Jonah album overall. I really love the lyrics of this track and man do I relate to it.

And that’s it for this week! What have you been loving this past week? Tell me in the comments or on social media! I look forward to “seeing you” next week…
