Getting To Know New Artist Avery Blank

We recently had a chance to connect with new artist Avery Blank and find out about her, her main aim with her music and whether she heard Yanny or Laurel. Check it out below…

[JW] Could you introduce us to who you are, where you’re from and how you came to Christ?

[AB] I’m almost 18, just graduated from high school.  I’m from a very small town in Kansas.  In addition to music I love the outdoors.  I love to hunt with my Dad and fish with my brother.  I’ve grown up in a small church in my hometown so I’ve always known Christ and been around people that worship God.  In my teenage years I began to experience more difficult things and I had to rely on God.  That is when my relationship with Christ became very close.

[JW] When and how did you fall in love with Christian music?

[AB)  Growing up I sang and listened to all types of music.  I specifically remember falling in love with Christian music the first time I raised my hands in worship while singing.  At that moment I realized how much music can move a person and connect them personally with God.

[JW] What’s your favorite genre of music and who are some of your favorite bands/artists?

[AB] My favorite genre is Christian music.  My second favorite is Country music.  It’s hard for me to choose because there is a lot of music l like!  Right now I would say some of my favorite bands/artists are Lauren Daigle, Hillsong, and Austin French.  Country wise I’m listening to a lot of Chris Stapleton and Brett Eldridge.

[JW] When did you know God was calling you to be an artist?

[AB] The summer between my freshman and sophomore year of high school I went to a Christian music camp In Nashville, TN.  I went to the camp with the intention of gaining knowledge about music and at that point I wasn’t feeling the push from God.  Singing was more of a hobby at that point rather than a lifestyle.  Throughout the camp I heard a lot of different people sing, I had a lot of good feedback and I realized that the talent God has given me is unique and that I need to utilize it for his glory.  During the camp I began to really feel the call from God and started pursuing Contemporary Christian Music more seriously.

[JW] Are there any artists you’d consider to be your biggest influences?

[AB] In the Christian music industry, Austin French has been my biggest role model and influence.  I also really like Lauren Daigle and Natalie Grant.

[JW] Your debut single is called Unbroken, what was the inspiration behind that title?

[AB] Unbroken was inspired by my own experiences.  I went through a time where I struggled with some depression and body image issues.  One day in church my minister was preaching on healing and forgiveness and I was able to begin letting go of my guilt and shame.  One part in the song says that we can’t fall so far that mercy won’t reach and restore us.  God is so good.  We are all beautiful and unbroken in God’s eyes.

[JW] What would you say is your main mission behind your music?

[AB] To lead people to Christ.

[JW] Are there any plans to release more music in the coming year?

[AB] I do have more music that I would love to release this year.  I pray that my first single is reaching people where they are at and is helpful in their walk with God.  If I can continue to help with that with more music then I’m totally on board and welcome even more opportunities to write and record.

[JW] What song or album are you currently obsessed with?

[AB] Reckless Love by Cory Asbury

[JW] What’s your favorite song of all time?

[AB] I have too many favorites to choose just one!

[JW] How can our readers be praying for you all over the coming months/year?

[AB] I would love for your readers to pray for my journey as a Christian artist and that God will keep revealing his plans for me.

[JW] Right, time to pretend as though we’re current! Which did you hear, Yanny or Laurel?

[AB] I definitely hear Laurel.

[JW] And the most important question of this whole interview, does pineapple belong on a pizza?

[AB] To be honest, I know this is lame but I have never tried it!

[JW] Thanks for talking to us today Avery and good luck for your future, anything else you’d like to say to our readers?

[AB] Thank you all so much for all of your support of my first single, Unbroken.  I hope that it speaks to you and please continue to follow me and pray for God’s will.
