We recently had the chance to speak with Theody about their new Preview EP. Check out our interview to read about the new EP, the story behind the music video for their new song Reignite, their dream collaboration, and more!
Stephanie: What is your favorite part of the songwriting process?
Lauren: That thrill that you get when you find just the right words and melody to express an emotion. Yaasssss!
S: Did you collaborate with anyone on this EP? Who is someone you’d love to work with in the future?
L: Kyle Simpson, our producer, had written the music for “Reignite” and asked if we would want to write lyrics and melody for it. I would love to collaborate with Matt Baird from Spoken in the future, he is an artist that I really admire!
S: What is the story behind the music video for “Reignite”?
L: The song is about persevering through the challenges and hardship. It’s easy to get discouraged and lost when life doesn’t go the way you think it should. We filmed the video in an abandoned amusement park which we felt was perfect imagery for how it feels to remember your forgotten dreams.
S: How long did it take to film the music video? What were some of your favorite moments from the filming experience?
L: We filmed the video all in one day. To film the running scenes, Tyler (video director and producer) climbed into the trunk of our friend’s car with his legs out, and then they drove ahead of us! Sometimes you gotta get creative when you’re on a budget!
S: How do you feel that you’ve grown and changed as artists since your last record?
L: We definitely pushed ourselves to write even better stronger songs. Since we decided to only write 5 songs for this project, we were able to be even more critical and particular about them. I don’t even remember how many songs got rewritten (or trashed) because they weren’t quite up to the standard we set for this EP.
S: What are you most looking forward to in this coming year?
L: We are excited for the possibilities that come with creating new art! We hope to reach a new audience, play more shows, and meet new friends. We hope these songs resonate with people, and serve to renew their hope.
