Andrea Kleid, former VP of Promotion at Word Entertainment, launches Boxer Poet, an innovative artist development company. Kleid will work alongside artists, labels and management companies to help increase an artist’s emotional connection with fans through the power of identity and storytelling.
Kleid has strategically partnered with storytelling expert Lisa Johnson to teach artists how to excavate their true identity and be more influential through an experience including a half-day workshop called Artist Identity. Together, Kleid and Johnson have built a one-of-a-kind methodology that merges their strengths as music executive and expert storyteller that offers a new approach to artist development.
“An artist’s career is fueled by a very specific fuel—emotional connection,” explains Kleid. “Nothing happens until people feel something. No songs get played on the radio, no videos are streamed and no concert tickets are purchased. Everything we do at Boxer Poet is to create authentic emotional connection between an artist and their fans.”
According to research, emotional connection—through distinctive identity and influential storytelling— has the potential to create new revenue streams with fans. In a recent Nielsen study, it was proven that 40 percent of U.S. music fans are responsible for 75 percent of music spending. These fans, who spend up to $26 billion on music each year, could spend $2.6 billion more if given the right opportunities to connect with their favorite artists through exclusive experiences and content. Boxer Poet believes that artists with the strongest fan bases have successfully communicated their identity to their fans.
