We continue 7 Weeks of P.O.D. with the next installment of my 50 favorite P.O.D. songs. Former guitarist Jason Truby’s presence can really be felt this time around, making an appearance on 5 of the 7 tracks here.
- “Breathe Babylon” [Brown]
“Breathe Babylon” features dissonant riffing and collective rapping from Sonny and guest vocalist Dirt. The rap metal song is among the more memorable moments of Brown.
- “If You Could See Me Now” [Testify]
Sandwiched in between the album’s two main singles, the powerful third track from Testify may have a slower pace, but the intense melody of “If You Could See Me Now” complements that nicely.
- “Bridge to Burn” [Beyond Testify]
“Bridge to Burn” was initially an unreleased b-side from the Payable On Death recording sessions. Thankfully though, this fun jam with a groovy bassline eventually saw the light of day. It can be found on the Beyond Testify companion disc that goes along with limited editions of the rockers’ 2006 effort.
- “Rock the Party (Off the Hook)” [The Fundamental Elements of Southtown]
This 1999 hit is the original party rock anthem (sorry LMFAO), and one of the more fun songs the band has ever released.
- “Let You Down” [Testify]
“Let You Down” is what I’d consider a brooding ballad. It’s one of the slower songs from Testify, and yet it’s also darker and heavier than much of the album.
- “Going in Blind” [Greatest Hits: The Atlantic Years]
Recorded for their 2006 greatest hits compilation, the ¾ tune is a fantastic way to end Jason Truby’s tenure as the band’s guitarist.
- “Change the World” [Payable On Death]
“Change the World” is one of the most popular songs from Payable On Death, and with good reason. The second single from the record dabbles in both reggae and alternative metal, resulting in a heavy track with a feel-good vibe.
