Mark Burnett and Roma Downey are a husband and wife duo that is known for producing a lot of big name, popular TV shows, including the recent smash hit The Bible. Their latest project is a continuation of the popular miniseries and picks up where it left off. The show is called A.D. The Bible Continues and airs Sundays at 9 on NBC. The album is a compilation of various songs that go alongside the show, and tackle the themes and stories that come to life in the show.
The album gets off to a strong, powerful start with the Newsboys hit “We Believe.” The song talks about how in this dark and broken world, we must still have faith and trust in God. The lyrics affirm our desire as Christians to believe in God no matter what. We know that He is coming back to heal this broken world.
All Sons & Daughters add to the album with their emotional, passionate song called “Buried In The Grave.” The passionate lyrics combined with the phenomenal harmonies really hit home with listeners with the emotional message. The song talks about how we are holding onto the promise that Jesus will come back for us. The song also talks about the feeling of hopelessness after Jesus was crucified, and how people held on to the promise that He would return 3 days later.
WILDFIRE7 contributes to the compilation by adding their take to the explosively popular Hillsong hit, “Oceans.” The song took the world by storm, and the unique vocals add a very unique twist and beautiful presentation of the powerful lyrics.
Kim Walker-Smith’s powerful vocals really resonate with listeners during her moving song “Spirit Break Out.” This song really glorifies God, and gives thanks to Him for all He has done for us. The passion of the vocals really send the message of gratitude to God. The song is also crying out to God to fill our lives with His presence, and to take over our lives to bring glory for Him.
“Make A Way (Feat. Jon Egan)” by Desperation Band has a beautifully simple piano introduction that carries throughout the song that really adds beauty and simplicity to the song. “Where there is no way, make a way, when no one else can reach us, you find us.” The song really talks about how in situations where all seems lost and hopeless, God will make a way for us and fix it in ways we could have never dreamed were possible.
The album also features timeless, classic worship songs that have been loved by many since their release like “Overcome” by Jeremy Camp, “Your Great Name” by Natalie Grant, “Healer” by Kari Jobe, “Your Name” by Paul Baloche, and “Build Your Kingdom Here” by Rend Collective.
Paul Wibur (with Danny Gokey and Sharon Wilbur) also share their take on the classic “Great I Am” and do a phenomenal job. The classic, powerful lyrics go so well with the harmonies between the three vocalists.
The album closes strongly with songs from Lincoln Brewster, The Brilliance, and Darlene Zschech all fitting the theme that A.D. The Bible Continues is sharing with viewers.
Overall this compilation is filled with incredible songs sung by incredibly talented artists. The album is a great companion to the TV show that will continue to be heard long after the show has completed it’s run.
