Artist: Gaye Arbuckle
Track: Jesus Is My Rock
“Therefore everyone who hears these words of mine and puts them into practice is like a wise man who built his house on the rock. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house; yet it did not fall, because it had its foundation on the rock. But everyone who hears these words of mine and does not put them into practice is like a foolish man who built his house on sand. The rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell with a great crash (Matthew 7:24-27, NIV).
As Matthew 7:27,25 says, the rain came down, the streams rose, and the winds blew and beat against that house. The house built on sand “fell with a great crash (27)” but the house on the rock “did not fall (25)” because of its foundation.
We, as wise people, will be able to withstand all things if our foundation is on God because, as with the wise man’s house, the right foundation makes all the difference.
The house built on sand, however, is the equivalent to us building ourselves on the temporal things, money and man’s approval, for example. It will stand tall in the good times but when the storm comes?
How precarious these things are!
Building on the Solid Rock isn’t always going to be easy but it will be worth it.
The Solid Rock isn’t like the things of this world – He is dependable and strong. He will hold you up when you feel like you’re ready to collapse.
Just as the foundation of a building is a ‘load-bearing part’, Christ is ours.
When it gets too much, He bears all that comes our way and holds us up. He is vital in order for us to survive.
And as Gaye Arbuckle sings; “…He has my life in His hands. When trouble surrounds me I know where I can go… Jesus is my rock… No matter what the problem He’ll always make a way. Hears me when I call… Jesus is my rock… He has my soul.”
I pray that you will hear Christ’s words this week.
