Ian Zumback is an Upstate New York based artist serving as a worship leader at Real Hope Ministries. Ian is happily married to his wife Susan, and loves spending time with his son Jonah. Ian got his start in music when he was 11 years old and started his very first band. He was on the heavy metal music scene until a life changing experience led him to give his life to Jesus Christ.
The first song off the EP “The God of All Hears Us” is a powerful and encouraging start to the EP. “Amazing love, how can it be, my saviour’s blood was shed for me”, “We offer our praise to you!” Throughout the song lyrics like these talk about the sacrifice God made, and how He needs to be praised for it. The song also talks about how no matter what, God always hears us, and how amazing that is.
The title track of the EP “Father’s Son” is a powerful song that has such a wonderfully unique sound with the guest vocals, and various instruments. “I have to find a way, one way to say, the things I mean to say when I am so in awe of you If ever I could find could find the words when I’m inspired in you of all the things you’ve brought me through.” Lyrics like these make the song so relatable. Talking about trying to find the words to thank God for the things He has done, the tough times He has brought you through is something that many of us often struggle with.
“Where Does My Help Come From” talks about how our help comes from the Lord. “I cast all my cares, I lay it all down.” These lyrics are a great reminder that we need to give all of our worries to God, and He will always take care of our needs. A very powerful ballad, the song gives great space for reflecting upon God, and thinking of the help he will always provide, even before we even realize we need it.
“Jesus, Lover of My Soul” is a calm yet moving song calling upon God to act as a protector, and to be with us wherever we go, and in every situation we find ourselves in. “When the night is closing in, be my refuge and my friend.” These lyrics serve as such a beautiful reminder that when we are feeling super overwhelmed, we need to call on Jesus and He will be there to guide us, and protect us through the tough times.
The final track off the EP “Mystery” is a beautiful ending. With a simple guitar intro, it builds into a very lyrically powerful song. “Christ has died, Christ has risen, and Christ will come again.” These lyrics serve as a great reminder that Christ died to save us, and 3 days later He rose again. A wonderful story that is not over yet, because He will come again! Ian has crafted these lyrics in such a way that reminds us well of the sacrifice that was made for us.
Overall Father’s Son is a great EP that should be heard by many. The reflective and inspiring songs will encourage many throughout their journey with Christ. This EP definitely shows Ian’s song writing and musical talents that will soon be discovered and enjoyed by many.
