Everyone has mood swings. We can start the day feeling lighthearted and contented but end the day feeling frustrated and aggressive. It is pretty normal; people and situations annoy us to the point that we feel like paying them back for what they’ve done and/or hitting something. But how we respond when we’re in a bad mood determines our character.
God also gets angry sometimes – when we disobey Him over and over again despite His warnings. And He is pleased when we are doing His will and abiding in His love. What happens when God is pleased? He pours down His blessings on us – A blessing, if ye obey the commandments of the LORD your God, which I command you this day: Deuteronomy 11:27 (KJV).
And when He’s angry, what does He do? Does He hail fire and brimstone on us like we do to others by raining threats? God shows mercy – For thy mercy is great above the heavens: and thy truth reacheth unto the clouds-Psalm 108:4 (KJV). God in His infinite majesty does not deal with us according to our iniquities but according to His mercy.
Having mood swings is part of our makeup. What we decide to do regarding our moods is what distinguishes us as children of God from the others. What do you do when you are happy, do you share your joy with others or enjoy it selfishly? And when you are angry with someone, do you pay him back evil for evil or do you show mercy and forgive the person? Think about it…
