Welcome to another week!
You and I have made it through another week and it is no thanks to the security systems we may have installed in our homes nor the vitamin supplements we may be taking daily. These things count but as the Bible rightly says, “…unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain” Psalms 127:1 (RSV).
We are alive this day because God, through His mercies, has not taken His breath away from us. So no matter what you may be going through, never forget to give Him thanks. Someone just lost his life, someone else is fighting for hers, but you and I are alive and well, and no problem in the world should overshadow the importance of showing gratitude for our lives to our Creator.
This week’s text is from Psalm 23:6 which says, “Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
How comforting it is to be assured of these soothing promises especially when what you’re experiencing at the moment is the exact opposite. But we can smile at the storm because the God we know will never leave, nor forsake us. No matter what life brings our way, wherever the winds may blow us, His goodness and mercy will never cease to follow and surround us everywhere we go.
If we are assured of this, where else should we dwell if not in His house? And thank God for His Spirit which now resides in us all the time. And as our Lord assures us that “He who abides in Me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing” John 15:5 (RSV), it should be our heart’s desire to always remain in Him so He will dwell in us always.
Things will not always go as planned but “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God” Psalms 20:7 (KJV) – God always has our backs.
Just remember, goodness and mercy shall follow you EVERYWHERE YOU GO! Have a blessed week and stay steadfast in faith. Be sure to check back next Monday morning, around the same time, for the next devotion.
