On November 8th 2013, new metalcore band Pathway Home released their debut single “Reviler” in the form of a lyric video on Youtube, which you can see below. Pathway Home is from Lynchburg, Virginia and is made up of five members; Blake Gederberg on vocals, Taylor Youstra on bass/vocals, Wes Bialk & Branden Stevens on guitars and Luke Roberts on drums.
“Reviler” starts off with a slow build up and then hits you with Gederberg’s gut wrenching vocals with the lyrics “You say they’re going to Hell, Yet you give them Hell on earth. Rather than lead them to water, you watch them die in thirst.” The song seems to be pointed at the hypocritical leaders in the church today who are more worried with their own personal interests, rather than the people in the church itself. Towards the end of the song the lyrics seem to change perspective, “It’s not our place to play judge for we are not worthy of such, it’s in you and you alone that we trust.”
These guys aren’t afraid of, or trying to shy away from, the fact that they’re a Christian Band like so many bands are now doing, and are outspoken about their faith in response to interview questions and in their band bio as well. Below is an excerpt from their bio on Facebook.
“Our mission as a band is to, first and foremost, lift up the Name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior and make Him famous in this generation. Second – we seek to meet and build relationships with our peers and demonstrate the love of Christ to a crowd that has little, if any exposure to the gospel. Finally, we look forward to sharing our enthusiasm for loud and heavy music with anyone who wants to listen!”
“Reviler” features guest vocals from Alex Gutzmer, vocalist from the band Colossus on Facedown Records, and was produced by Zach Jones and recorded at Royal House Studio in Williamsburg, Virginia. In “Reviler,” Pathway Home have not only created a debut single to be proud of but have signaled their intent to make a great impact on the metal culture and they surely have a promising future.
